After the stressful mess that was Fall Semester, I’m proud to say: I’M DONE! No more worrying about finals or papers or classes (oh my!) until the next semester. I can finally relax! But these two weeks in the middle hosts one of the most magical times of the year: Christmas.
A few posts ago, I told you that one of my biggest December Goals is to get Christmas Spirit. But with only just a few days left until Christmas, I have an announcement to make. Here goes.
I’m not in the Christmas Spirit.
At least, not yet. But I have time, and a plan. And because I’m home alone while my little siblings still have classes to take, I figured that it’s time to launch Plan B to get myself jolly in time for Christmas. Here are some things that I’m planning on doing to get into the Christmas Spirit!
Listen to Christmas Music
Do you have some reading to do? Maybe a blog post to write? Laying in bed waiting for the motivation to start your day? Just sitting around contemplating why you’re not out having Christmas adventures and are, instead, sitting on your couch? Whatever boring or routine task you’re doing, make it even better by playing some Christmas music in the background.
From holiday singles to Christmas movie scores, I’m sure there’s a tune out there that will make your heart grow three times it;s current size.
Watch Christmas Movies
Some Christmas movies are just too traditional to not watch. There’s nothing more relaxing than a cheesy Christmas rom-com or a little kid learning the true meaning of Christmas. While everyone has their own favorites (The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of mine and, unpopular opinion, but I can’t stand The Polar Express.) there are some movies that you just can’t skip.
Snuggle up with a blanket and a mug of hot cocoa and put on these classics!
- Dr. Suess’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas
- A Charlie Brown Christmas
- The Santa Clause
Decorate for the Holidays
There’s something about putting up a Christmas tree or making DIY Happy Holidays decorations that will instantly boost your Christmas mood. By putting your time into it and sitting down to get your home ready for the holidays, that kind of energy might transfer to yourself.
Check Pinterest for some DIY decor and or go get some cheap holiday craft kits from the Dollar Store or Michael’s. Gather your family and get your crafting on. (Bonus: play some Christmas music in the background!)
Besides, there’s something looking at a beautifully decorated Christmas tree all lit up that fills you up with glee.
Dress for the Holidays
You are what you wear, right? So why settle for any boring old sweater when you can wear a cute Christmas sweater or a reindeer antler headband? Not only will you feel more festive, but you’ll make other people get into the Christmas Spirit when they see you! There’s nothing like a tacky but adorable get up that will make you smile.
I love putting on a large Christmas sweater and getting cozy with a movie! Or some extremely comfortable Christmas pajamas when it comes time for bed.
Here are some Christmas sweaters I’ve been really into! I’ve ordered these for not only myself, but my entire family and some friends!
Have Some Holiday Treats
There’s a reason why places like Starbucks or IHOP have seasonal items. If you haven’t had any holiday treats, you better get up and go have some! Filling your stomach up with delicious and jolly food will not only make you extremely happy, but can put you in instant Christmas spirit. When Fall came around, you bet I drank the traditional Pumpkin Spiced Latte and ate pumpkin spiced everything. Christmas should be no different!
Here are some of the foods I’ve been excited about all December:
- Dark Chocolate Peppermint Pancakes from IHOP
- Egg Nog Milkshake + Peppermint Chocolate Chip Milkshake from Steak and Shake
- Candy Cane Crunch Donut from Dunkin Donut
Get and Wrap Christmas Gifts
This is the one things that will immediately fill me up with Christmas spirit. There’s nothing like trying to get the perfect gifts for everyone your list and wrapping everything up to signal the start of Christmas. So whether you’re an early shopper, or a last minute buyer– I’m sure we can all agree that Christmas shopping brings that giddy happiness like nothing else can.
(Not to mention the feeling of utter success when you find the perfect gift for that one person who seemed impossible!)
If you haven’t already, maybe host a small Secret Santa within your friend group or attend a White Elephant gift exchange! And don’t forget to get excited to see your friends and family open your gifts to them.
Are you in the Christmas spirit yet, or am I the only one who’s not quite there yet? How did/are you getting into the seasonal mood?
