Hello world! My name is Joanne Mae, but you can just call me Joanne. I’m currently am eighteen year old college sophomore in the University of Florida. This blog was started on September 16, 2o16 after a boring few weeks of college. Here on my little corner of the internet, you can find college and lifestyle related posts from my own experiences.
A few tidbits about myself.
I was born in the Philippines until I was about four. My family and I lived in Singapore before moving to California and then sunny, sunny Florida. And I’ve been here ever since!
Right now, I’m a Psychology and (potential) Health Science double major with a UF Teach Science minor. I have very big med school dreams (after all, why settle for Mrs. when you could be Dr.?). I had big dreams to go out of state when I was in high school, but I decided to stay and go to a state school to save some money.
I still wanted to have the “traditional” college experience, so I moved six hours away from home and settled in a dorm room. I’m determined to finish college as best as I can and with as little debt as I can (so far, I’m at $0 so I guess I’m doing pretty well!). After all, med school will be draining in and of itself.
Aside from school, I am a shameless selfie taker and will most likely stop in the middle of a crowd for a photo shoot. Speaking of photos, I’m also forever a proponent for throwing up a peace sign, no matter how cheesy it looks. I’m always sporting my eyebrows done, even if I’m not wearing anything else. And if I want to be a little fancier, I’m a huge fan of dark lipstick.
You can find me constantly crying over cat videos and watching endless baking videos. I’m in somewhat of a long distance relationship with the two loves of my life: my kitty and my high school sweetheart. I love cooking, reading, and playing the piano, even though I never do any of them anymore because I have no time for them.
You can come hang out with me on social media!
Why I started this blog.
For a long time now, I’ve wanted to have a blog. Just because I like writing. Also because I like to think that I’m (A) important enough and (B) interesting enough to have one. So here it is. My blog.
This is actually happening.
Throughout high school, I was positive that I was going to become a Political Science and English double major. I have always loved the English major and saw myself as a lawyer in the future. But, as stated before, I’m now headed in the medical route.
When I decided to ditch an English major, I gave up a lot of what I loved. The constant rigor of all the science classed I’m taking means that I couldn’t even take a few English classes here and there. Even though I’m an English major at heart, my future belongs in the medical practices. So this blog is my little compromise: I get to write for myself while trying not to horrendously fail my sciences.
(If only that was easier said than done.)
Coupled with my love of writing and the fact that I was simply just bored. I’ve been putting it off because I thought it would get in the way of school. But now that I realized that school gets kind of boring here and there, I finally started up Joanne Mae – A Life Blog. Ta da!
College has been a wild ride for me. No amount of “How to Make the Most of Your College Experience” lists could have ever prepared me for the storm that was Freshman Year. It’s still a wild ride now that I’m a Sophomore, and I doubt that it’s going to get any easier. College has chewed me up and spit me out and I am still living and breathing and, quite frankly, thriving. So here’s my experiences, uncut and unfiltered (for the most part). At the very least, you can make yourself feel better that you’re not as much of a hot mess as I am.
